how do we differentiate between a hacked pokemon and a real one

there's no way to tell when they are really well done,
unless it's an unreleased pokemon, or a pokemon that has a move it shoudn't have.
for example: a sturdy magikarp with hyperbeam. obviously hacked.
but a shiny magikarp with normal moveset, can be hacked or non hacked. really no way to tell the difference

but then how will the hacked pokemon not allowed for competitions if it has the normal movesets

You can't really differenciate hacked ones and ones that were obtained legally.
Unless it's a unreleased Pokemon(like what gerardusnl0 said eariler)
Or a Pokemon that has a weird moveset(like Arceus with tail glow)

Basically, what most of them said but the best way to tell is if the said pokemon can be used in a wifi-battle. This is usually the best way to find out if its illegal or legal. If its illegal, a prompt will appear saying "You cannot battle with the other person's party". Have your battle partner and yourself check your entire team until you find that illegal mon. Also, be sure to check abilities as well. Another thing to look out for is when someone says they went through pokebank and that "You cannot battle" prompt appears, never believe what they ask cause passing through pokebank =/= it being a legal mon.

Yes, using it on online battles will do to see whether it is legal or not, but it may still not be legit.
